Part-time Health Promoters for NHS Health ChecksYou could join Health Smart's bank of health promoters whose main role is to encourage people to have free health checks in the community. You will be making a huge difference as these health checks will help people lead longer and happier lives.

If you have the confidence to approach people in the street, are hard working and have a strong academic record in health-related degree, then we would like to hear from you. You will be reliable and be available for at least two days a week.

Role

A great paid, term-time & vacation opportunity for a final year student, recent graduate or post-graduate within a strong interest in health promotion, psychology, public health to get hands on experience in an innovative health screening and preventative intervention programme. The role requires commitment of on average 2 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Support community health-screening events
  • Engage in health promotion activities to increase awareness and take-up of health checks
  • Identify personal barriers to take up of health-checks
  • Adapt communication techniques to engage different communities
  • Observe and report on what is effective and what difficulties you have encountered.

There will be additional opportunities during long vacations to get involved in the design and development of new interventions.

Academic Profile

You should have a demonstrable interest in public health through a strong record in under-graduate or post-graduate degree ( for example, health promotion, public health, health psychology, social marketing ).

  • Great personal communication skills – energetic & empathetic! You must have the confidence to approach people who are out and about in the community and the ability to engage their interest
  • Self-starting and energetic – willing to accept direction but able to work independently
  • Hard-working and resilient – there may be some long hours in challenging environments
  • Excellent organisation skills & attention to detail
  • Totally reliable time-keeping
  • Passion interest & commitment to public health and improving people's health and wellbeing
