Health–Smart Limited (“Health–Smart”) was established in April 2004 to develop bio-technology cutting edge solutions to transform the ability of individuals to look after their own health.
University College London (“UCL”), one of the world’s leading teaching colleges, has supported Health–Smart during its early stages, through its commercial venture–arm Interbiomedica.
Interbiomedica, is a venture between CP Biomedica (part of a multinational group) and UCL Biomedica, to form a company created to translate UCL’s research into commercial development for positive social and economic benefit.
During the first 3 years Health-Smart has developed wearable wireless sensors and software on mobile phones and PCs' to monitor multi-parameters such as ECG, pulse, pulse transit tim , electro dermal activity , 3D accelerometer (to monitor activity and movement ), It has also created advanced platform technology, and acquired patents and IP which has accelerated development and enhanced its portfolio.
In 2007 Hans Snook (the founder and former CEO of Orange) became the Chairman, and acquired Interbiomedica’s Health-smart shares; Stewart Davies (former CEO of BT Exact, and senior advisor to Coller capital ) has joined the board and helped to bring to Health-Smart both investment and further experience and connections.
Dr Ameet Bakhai, (a consultant cardiologist and expert in cardiovascular risk prevention, health economy and clinical trials, who worked in Barnet General Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital ) met Tuvi Orbach and agreed to help health-Smart develop a comprehensive cardiovascular risk reduction system leading to a clinical trial to control hypertension . Health-Smart has developed a comprehensive interactive system to assess and control cardiovascular conditions (especially hypertension), including wireless multi-parameter sensors and a multimedia self help expert system.
2008 -won approval for clinical trials from BEH REC covering 6 primary care trusts & multiple hospitals;
Won MHRA approval for multi-trial testing of Health-Smart devices for all chronic cardiovascular conditions.
Health-Smart created a consortium and collaborated with leading universities to research, develop and implement the best science and technology solutions that can reduce risks, improve wellbeing and enhance the quality of life.
